We are Civic Lanes CIC, a public interest organisation based in the United Kingdom and working globally. Our work begins with a simple belief. Everyone deserves access to clear information, meaningful participation, and the practical skills that allow them to navigate the world with confidence. We recognise that many communities face significant barriers that limit these possibilities and we see our role as supporting them in ways that are respectful, grounded, and socially aware.
We understand our position as an organisation operating from the global north and we approach our partnerships with care. We do not place ourselves at the centre of other people’s struggles. Instead, we collaborate with communities and organisations in ways that respond to their realities rather than our assumptions. Our work reflects lived experiences rather than ideology, and our focus is always on what is useful and possible.
We work with people who are often left out of digital and civic spaces. This includes communities with limited access to information, groups navigating difficult economic conditions, and individuals whose gender or social identity exposes them to additional layers of exclusion or misunderstanding. We support these communities without placing labels on them and without creating distance between them and the wider public. Our aim is to make sure that people who have the least structural advantage can still gain the knowledge and tools they need to participate fully.
We collaborate widely, and our work is intentionally apolitical. We are not guided by partisan positions or ideological commitments but by the practical value we can offer to the communities we support. This gives us the flexibility to partner with community groups, civil society organisations, academic institutions, international bodies, and global technology companies. We work with institutions of different sizes and traditions, understanding that meaningful progress often requires cooperation across sectors.
Our focus is simple. We prioritise what helps people access information, build skills, and participate confidently in civic life. By grounding our work in real needs, we are able to engage with a broad range of actors who recognise the importance of strengthening public understanding and supporting inclusive participation, whatever their background or source of funding.
Our work includes research, guidance materials, and training. We design curricula, produce learning resources, and deliver workshops that focus on digital literacy, information clarity, and civic engagement. Everything we create is designed to be grounded, accessible, and immediately useful.
As a Community Interest Company, any surplus is reinvested in activities that benefit the public. Our purpose is not symbolic. It is practical. We aim to build pathways of understanding and access for people who need them most, while partnering with organisations that wish to contribute to this goal in good faith.
Civic Lanes exists to support people in making sense of the spaces they move through. We do this work with respect for the communities we learn from and with an openness to collaboration that allows us to move across different sectors and contexts with ease.
